MAHS and the Floating Drydock HM Bermuda

The drydock was sold as scrap to a German company in 1906 and towed out of the Dockyard.   One report indicates that during the tow it broke loose and lodged on the rocks at Spanish Point, while another that it was beached there intentionally for the salvage work.

By 1908, after it was partially dismantled, the drydock was abandoned to more informal salvage.   In time, the structure grew to be an eyesore and was seen as an obstruction to the entry to the small Spanish Point Harbor.   The government used explosives in the 1950s in an unsuccessful attempt to break up the remaining portion of the wreckage.
