Religious medallions were common at the site. The medallions were devotional pieces, attesting largely to the
evangelical intentions of the monks on board the ship.
Several medallions are shown on the left side of this image. The items on the far right are portions of a knife handle, while the small items above are paste jewelry.
The medals bore representations of saints, shrines, mysteries, and miracles, together with emblems and devices of
various kinds depicting other religious themes.
Most of the artifacts were found lying among the dead coral that makes up most of the bottom. Water depths range
from 5 meters in-shore to 10 meters further out. High energy wave action promoted by the prevailing trade winds
on the exposed east side of Anguilla discourages the deposition of sand and subsequent burial of artifacts.
