MAHS Croatan Project

One-to-one
tracings were made of the starboard hull interior and exterior planks. Wood samples were taken from the keel, keelson, floor,
ceiling, and exterior planking for further examination.

|
In addition, a group of four divers
planned to search the surf line and deeper water where the wreck had first washed up for what was thought to be part of the keelson.
In the end, conditions were too rough and diving was not considered safe.

The drawing of the feature above
was made during the initial observation in November. Based on similarities between this piece and the portion of the hull
that was documented in January, we assume that the fragment was indeed part of the wreck, making the original keel no less than 90 feet in length.
