Within the vessel itself preservation was excellent.   Wine bottles, referred to as onion bottles due to their squat shape, had survived the wrecking and were in some instances still on the shelves where they had been stored.   A wooden surgeon's box, pictured below, was discovered with medicine bottles remaining in their compartments.

Only a few, select artifacts have been recovered from the wreck.   Under a license authorizing retrieval of endangered artifacts from the site, SeaDive has removed several artifacts of diagnostic value, such as the tankard shown below, from Stirling Castle.

Northumberland's bell was also recovered.

As was one of the cannons, a bronze six-pounder, from Stirling Castle.
