MAHS became in involved in survey of Stirling Castle the early 1980s. By this point the ever-moving sands
had nearly covered the ship yet again.
But conditions improved over the ensuing years, and the vessel began to reappear in 1998.
The following year, a team of six MAHS volunteers joined British archaeologists and divers from SeaDive, an avocational
organization based at the East Kent Maritime Trust, to conduct a formal survey of the site.

Dive conditions in the area are almost as treacherous as the Goodwins themselves. Strong tidal currents of up to 5 knots
require work to be timed with slack tides. Visibility can be 8-12 feet on the best days, but is often near zero.
Depths range to 60 feet, and water temperatures encourage the use of a dry suit.
