The frigate served on the West Indies station and later, under Captain George Fowke, in northern Europe.
Fowke and Proselyte returned to the Caribbean in 1801. In September of that year, the ship was under sail to St. Maarten from St. Kitts when it struck the
rocks at Proselyte Reef, known then as as Man-of-War Reef, while approaching Philipsburg.
