MAHS Now Meets Bi-Monthly - You're invited!
February Meeting
At the February meeting we will discuss the annual conference of the Society for Historical Archaeology, held last month in Baltimore.
MAHS delivered presentations on project-related topics at two symposia. In addition, MAHS is an Institutional Associate Member on the Board of the
Advisory Council on Underwater Archaeology (ACUA). A number of important issues regarding maritime historic preservation were discussed at the ACUA Board
meeting this year, and we will review the discussions.
We will also update some of the exciting projects MAHS is currently conducting, including work in the
Chesapeake Bay, the Pamunkey River, and the Florida Keys.
Join us Tuesday, February 14, at 7:30 PM at McLean High School.
Bi-Monthly Meeting Announcement
Beginning in October 2010, MAHS changed its General Membership meetings to a bi-monthly schedule. As in the past, the meetings will
be held on the second Tuesday of the month. The meeting schedule for the coming year can be found here.
Speakers will be announced as they are finalized.
MAHS News
Bodkin Creek Project Completed
MAHS completed the Bodkin Creek project submitting a final report to the Maryland Historical Trust in April.
Thanks to the many MAHS volunteers for all the hours spent bringing the project to a successful conclusion.
Thanks also to the experts of Azulmar
Research.
Pamunkey River Project

White House Landing on the Pamunkey River in Virginia was for a time an important logistics base
for the Union Army in the spring of 1862.
Barges side by side were part of the water borne supply net to support General McClellans Peninsula Campaign
by way of the York River. MAHS is currently working on a project to investigate these barges or canal boats.
